Federal Equal Access Act Protects GSAs :

 You Have Rights!!

GSA Clubs:

If there is ONE non-curricular student club in your public school, you have the LEGAL RIGHT to form your GSA club.

GSA have legal rights to be formed if:

  • If your school has allowed at least one non-curriculum related student group to use its facilities for a meeting place during non-instructional time.
  • If your club has followed all the basic requirements ANY other club must follow in starting their school club.

 

Freedom of Speech:  Sometimes schools try to silence students about their sexual orientation or gender identity.  If you attend a public school, you have a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to be out of the closet and to express your opinions.

Prom: FEDERAL LAW protects you from taking a same-sex partner to your school dance.  Public schools cannot stop you from bringing a same-sex date to prom.

Privacy:  Teachers and school officials DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT to "out" you to anyone without your permission or use your seuxal orientation or gender identity to manipulate you in any way!!!
