Mission

The Texas Gay-Straight Alliance Network is a statewide program that unites queer, trans and allied youth by supporting, strengthening, and sustaining GSA student clubs and community campaigns. Through peer training and youth leadership development, we provide resources for youth to empower themselves to work for social justice and fight oppression in their schools and communities.

Vision

We envision Texas schools and communities in which queer, trans, and allied youth feel safe, powerful and affirmed in their multiple identities.

Values: We Believe...

  • In educating ourselves, our schools, and our communities about issues of oppression and empowerment.

  • That every student and youth has the right to feel safe in hir community and school.

  • In connecting and empowering queer, trans, and allied youth leaders statewide.

  • In the inclusion of queer, trans, and allied youth from all backgrounds and locations, of all races, income backgrounds, abilities, citizenship statuses, gender identities and expressions, sexualities, religions, and creeds.

  • That justice for queer, trans, and allied people will not be successful unless we seek an end to all forms of oppression and band together in solidarity with all who are working for justice.

  • That all youth have the power to find the solutions to build and sustain justice movements.

  • In the interconnectedness between the various systems of oppression and value an intersectional approach.

  • In developing youth leaders who can advocate for themselves and others.

  • In supporting and amplifying the voices of queer, trans, and allied youth to be recognized in schools and communities.

  • In having our organization and its resources available and accessible to all.

  • That in our struggle to fight for justice for queer, trans and allied youth, we will use sustainable models that are non-oppressive to local and global communities.
